Reflection on 2019 Leadership Trends

Congratulations!  We’ve made it more than halfway through 2019.  It’s a great time to reflect on the first 7 months of the year, as you start your push for the finish line.  I remember an online article that I ran across on Inc.com at the end of 2018 that outlined 5 leadership trends to which executives will be paying attention in 2019.  The article was very short and to the point (much appreciated), but discusses these very important themes:

  1. Learn to lead several generations. Create an inclusive environment that values and motivates employees from diverse generational backgrounds, considering each individual’s unique needs and perspectives.
  2. Welcome female leadership. Foster an inclusive culture that diversifies leadership teams, acknowledging the correlation between female leadership and improved profitability.
  3. Time to pick up the pace. Strike a balance between meeting increasing customer demands for faster results and maintaining high-quality standards without overwhelming your workforce.
  4. Emphasize accountability. Cultivate effective leadership through training and development, focusing on promoting a culture of responsibility and adherence to set standards and values.
  5. Embrace continuing education. Invest in your employees’ development to keep pace with evolving business trends and technologies, fostering employee engagement and preparing for future growth opportunities.

While all 5 trends offer great insight and perspective, the first learn to lead several generations resonates with me, because this will always be a moving target.  More so, the leadership principles necessary to lead a workforce combination of generation types (Baby Boomers, Gen X, Y, Z, Millennials, and whatever comes next) will always be a moving target.

How many of these leadership trends have you already spent energy and focus in 2019?

What is your plan to increase your attention to these throughout the rest of the year?
